Summer fun at Sustainable Future Center - Rockin' out and gardening!

Shopping local is so important for our community, economy, farmers, and your health!
As Sustainable Future Center expands it's vision of building an engaged community and a sustainable future for the city of Knoxville, we have launched our Farm To Table Sale!
Freshly picked greens, garlic, small bundles of herbs: thyme, rosemary, oregano, greens, sage, microgreens, turmeric, eggs and more!
ALL ORGANIC. Turmeric and eggs from our community partners.

This months focus:
We will again have this month's meeting on a Zoom call as well as in person. Since we can gather in groups up to 10 people, we have 10 spots open to come to the garden in person.
This event starts at 10am for both in-person and Zoom. Click here for Zoom details. Zoom call will end at 11am. In-person, we will do some gardening from 11am - 12pm! (social-distancing applies)

Teen Volunteer Group
Saturdays 9am - 11pm
Is your teen home and bored? Invite them to be part of our Teen Volunteer Group where they can learn about gardening while working on outdoor projects such as:
Community Garden: planting, harvesting, weeding, watering, upkeep of beds, et.
Clearing the fence line of weeds (a great workout!)
Sifting dirt
Maintaining the chicken coop
Building hugelkultur
River clean-up
and more!
Accumulate hours towards the Tennessee Promise and The Hope Scholarship programs!
Your first Saturday will be orientation and parents have to sign waivers for the teens. Come once, once in a while or every week!

Recipe of the Month
Ginger Tea


Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 24 hours, unattended
Yield: 6-8 servings
Ingredients:
1 lb fresh ginger root
Juice of 2 limes
3 pints water
maple syrup or agave nectar to taste
Directions:
1. Thinly peel the fresh ginger, grate and mix with water in a large saucepan.
2. Bring to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes. Cover the pan, turn off the heat and let sit for 24 hours.
3. Strain the liquid through a fine mesh sieve.
4. Add the lime juice and maple syrup or agave, stir until dissolved. Serve chilled.
